Perfect planning – is there such a thing?

By June 2, 2017Getting Started

Like most people, I crave structure in my life. And while my parameters are pretty darn wide, there is something deliciously satisfying about ticking boxes, crossing out tasks, having deadlines and knowing what’s left to be done.

Planning a Bermuda destination wedding is absolutely no different. Apart from the fact that you’re getting married!

After you have set the date (and the budget), it’s time to start listing all the things that are near and dear to your heart. So I ask you… in years to come when you look back on your wedding day, what will you want to remember? Somehow I don’t think it’s the napkin fold.

Gather up your favourite planning tools – personally, I am a sucker for a great wedding planning book with accents of gold, and a selection of metallic pens. Sit down with your honey and discuss your “must haves”.

Is it the guest experience?…  the band? …the food? … the photography? – Doesn’t matter – this is your wedding. What’s your most important thing?

Then tackle that priority first (or you’re just not going to be able to focus on anything else). Whether it’s hiring the best band you can afford, having the photographer for an extra hour or splurging on a decadent dessert bar…simply get it done.

Don’t you feel better?

Break the rest into categories, and then list all the associated tasks. Highlight anything that’s time sensitive and focus on one list at a time – we call it “block and tackle”.  Before you know it, you’ll be finished!  And my favourite tip… start early and build in a lot of extra time… most things always take longer than you think.

Not sure when things should be done? Wedding Wire has a great timeline for booking vendors – just adjust it to accommodate your schedule.  Decided to stay at home after all? Check out Stateside wedding venues.
